Hi bank team, Good day... I hope you are doing well.. This is regarding a Department store which is near by my area. Today I went to purchase glossaries for my home. For billing Rs. 2488.00, I asked them swipe the card and they asked me to extra charge of 2% + sales tax. I asked whether this will reflect in the bill but they said, we don't give Bill. Ans also told  bank insisted to collect this amount from the customers. I don't whether there is a guideline to get the charges like this from the customers. That too as per the guideness from This is been initiated. The shop keeper asked me to get out of the shop if I am not paying the service charge. Also, I said I am ready to pay Bill but this charge should reflect on the bill. It's not been accepted. The shop keeper is not ready to listen about anything

At the outset, let me clarify that this site is designed by a group of senior Banking Professionals to assist Bank Customers at large to provide guidance for resolution of any complain/query/grievance in respect of financial services. This site does not belong to any Bank or a regulator, which may please be noted.

Generally banks do not enter into arrangements which allow merchants to recover service charges from customers shopping with credit or debit cards. There are unscrupulous merchants adopting  such unacceptable practices. The option for customers in such cases is to boycott the merchant, unless he cannot be avoided for the sake of convenience or he has monopoly situation with reference to products or location.
