Dear Pratap,

At the outset, let me clarify that this site is designed by a group of senior Banking Professionals to assist Bank Customers at large to provide guidance for resolution of any complain/query/grievance in respect of financial services. This site does not belong to any Bank or a regulator, which may please be noted.

You should have informed your bank when you left the job so that you need not have faced the current situation. You are aware that salary accounts are offered certain privileges and they are contingent of regular credit of salary. Once salary credits cease, banks withdraw concessions and treat such accounts as normal savings accounts.  However, your bank ought to have informed you that if no salary credit is received, the account would attract levies applicable for normal accounts. It is possible that appropriate clause in this regard would have been part of the agreement signed by you while opening the account which you might not have noticed.

I suggest you to put forth your arguments before Nodal Officer of the Bank through email or letter and   seeking his intervention for reversal of charges debited to your account without any prior notice. You can find contact details of Nodal Officer on your bank's website.

If you don't receive satisfactory response you may escalate the matter the Banking Ombudsman for resolution of your grievance. For address of the Office of the Banking Ombudsman, Area of Operation (jurisdiction) and the procedure for lodging complaint, you may access the website https://bankingombudsman.rbi.org.in/

Regards
