Hi, My name is Varun Sharma & A/c no. is XXXXXXXXXXX2268. I had opened a salary account in your bank 2 yrs ago. Last week i checked my mini statement as i was in a doubt of my balance to be incorrect & got a shock. I was debited Rs.515.25 twice for SMAB charges. I also filed an online complaint about this. But the reply i got was useless. They told me that my salary A/c was converted into General Saving A/c. But, here i want to make it clear that i was not informed anything about this conversion of my A/c or about any minimum balance that i had to keep in my A/c. I was even not informed anything before or after the deduction of above said heavy SMAB charges. This is really an unprofessional approach by bank. So i would request you to refund Rs.1030 to my A/c. So that i can consider to pursue my relations with your bank

Dear Varun

At the outset, let me clarify that this site is designed and managed by a group of Senior Banking Professionals to assist Bank Customers at large to provide guidance for resolution of any complain/query/grievance in respect of financial services. This site does not belong to any Bank or a regulator, which may please be noted.

It is a general practice by banks that in a salary account, if salary is not credited consecutively for 3 months, they convert the same into a normal / general SB account, which would attract all relevant charges as per the schedule of charges.  This arrangement would have been agreed to by probably your earlier organisation, which got the salary account opened for you.  Once you changed your employer, should have informed the bank accordingly and got the account closed.  Nevertheless, you may submit a written request to the bank to waive and refund the charges.  However, it is banks' prerogative to take call.
